Vein Therapies and Procedures

Varicose Veins Care
When weak valves in the vessels fail, they lead to vein dilation. In larger veins, this is known as varicose veins. Small veins that dilate are called spider veins, or telangiectasias. Leg veins may or may not cause symptoms, such as dull aching, throbbing, heaviness, or restlessness. You can also feel itchiness, but this is more common with spider veins. We will help determine the cause with an examination during your consultation.
Sclerotherapy
The most effective treatment for those with spider veins and smaller varicose veins is sclerotherapy. Our team will administer small injections of medicine into the veins themselves to help close off the vessel until it disappears. This therapy has been used for almost 200 years and is still considered to be the gold standard. We can perform these injections into veins as small as 0.5 millimeters.
Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy
Using a duplex ultrasound, we can locate, visualize, and inject the medication into deep veins without causing incisions and scars. It is a minimally-invasive procedure lasting up to 30 minutes and requires only a small dose of local anesthetic.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
With large surface varicose veins, Dr. Elliott prefers to remove the vein. Ambulatory phlebectomy is a simple office procedure done with local anesthetic. In his experience, this involves easier recovery and better results than injection treatment.
Compression Leg Wear
Compression leg wear in the form of knee length and thigh length socks are a proven way to promote blood flow, reduce and prevent swelling, improve the condition of Varicose veins, blood clots and more. Dr. Elliott will prescribe compression leg wear based on your condition which come in a variety of strengths, lengths and colours.
